Background of Indian Point Energy Center

The Indian Point Energy Center, operated by Consolidated Edison (Con Ed) at the time of the incident, is one of the United States’ major nuclear power plants. Originally constructed in 1955, it was fully operational 1962, with its counterparts, Indian Point 2 and 3 being operational in 1974 and 1976, respectively.

Situated along the Hudson River, the facility has long been a crucial component of the region’s energy infrastructure. It consists of multiple reactors and has been subject to rigorous security measures due to its proximity to one of the most densely populated metropolitan areas in the country. The plant’s security protocols are designed to prevent any potential threats, making the sighting of a UFO particularly alarming.

The Incident

On the night of July 24th, 1984, the Indian Point Energy Center became the epicenter of an extraordinary event. Multiple security personnel and plant operators reported witnessing a large, unidentified flying object hovering near Reactor Two.
